Your Guide to Bakeries and Pastry Shops in Batam

You have a sweet tooth, we have the breadcrumbs

A good bakery is the Holy Grail for all those with a sweet tooth – especially when one’s on the move.

In a foreign land where sweet mysteries are waiting to be found, here’s our trail of breadcrumbs for all you pastry hunters out feasting your way to Batam!

1- Morning Bakery

Do you wake up for breakfast or does breakfast wake you up in the morning? Morning Bakery gets up before dawn so the early birds can get caffeinated and seated for breakfast right after the sun rises!

Founded in the 1980s, Morning Bakery’s newest and largest of 14 outlets can be spotted at Greenland, Batam Center. The two-storey establishment is charming, open-spaced and furnished with rustic brick walls. For freshly baked breakfast, venture no further than the ground floor. There, you’ll find an impressive collection of bread and pastry spread. If there is such a thing as the scent of morning, we bet you’d find it there too.

On the second floor, you’ll find Half-and-Half serving Korean Bingsu from 10am to 8pm. If you listen close enough you can hear the city waking!

Morning Bakery features an affordable all-day menu with Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Western dishes.  A favorite local hideout, we recommend you to start your day with Morning Bakery.

Pick of the day:

Don’t forget to help yourself to a cup of local kopi.

Opening Hours:

6:00am – 10:00pm

2- Holland Bakery

Classic cakes and breads; artisanal pastries in the company of snacks with a local flair. Talk about being a bread-winner, Holland Bakery’s game is so strong there are over 300 outlets across Indonesia, baking the world a better place since 1978.

There are 15 of them in Batam and we’ve found the one store that allows you to catch the cream of the crop – fresh out of its oven in the heart of Batam Centre Square.

Think of it as the Willy Wonka of bakeries, working its daily magic four storeys above a retail space for on ground take-away and dine-in requests. The five-floored HQ is not only an impeccable retail space but also a baking powerhouse for the rest of its 14 outlets in Batam.

Think life is better with butter? Holland Bakery uses only quality butter from New Zealand. Have room for another trivia? They are licensed holders of Walt Disney characters!

Planning to visit Holland Bakery later in the morning? We’d certainly recommend you help yourself to a second breakfast!

Pick of the day:

Lemper Ayam fulfils the criteria of  “snacks with a local flair” being a sweet-and-savoury Indonesian specialty. Wrapped in strips of banana leaves, Lemper Ayam features fragrant glutinous rice filled with chicken made savoury with a touch of spices.

3- Kez’s Bakery & Restaurant

Kez’s Bakery is another gem in Batam Center if you’re travelling in a big group with divided attention for brunch and dessert. Fully air-conditioned with an outdoor dining area on the second floor, the two-storey establishment features a café-style bakery on the ground and a cosy bar-and-dining space one level up.

Think you’re spoilt for choice? Wait till you see its Thai, Italian, Indonesian and Japanese fusion menu!

Pick of the day:

Dengaku Beef Fried Rice. We think the fusion recipe is simply a match made in heaven. Health junkies might want to try Kez’s popular smoked salmon salad.
