Cafe Hopping: 5 Brunch Places in Batam

For the food & coffee connoisseur in you

Good food, good coffee, good ambience and good conversations. Are these too much to dream of a café that can do all that so we don’t need to hop?

Here are five places that caught our eyes with their WOW factor when we hit the streets of Batam for a weekend brunch-out.

1 – Anchor Café and Roastery

Dermaga Culinary Paradise’s sunny Anchor Café and Roastery is a must-try if you want to be charmed by all things homemade. Opened in 2015, Anchor Café is a specialty coffee house serving US southern comfort food and handcrafted coffee on its all day breakfast and kids menu.

From wholesome homemade wild-berry granolas to pecan pies and home-poured candles, Anchor’s attitude of do-it-yourself was telling when we chatted with Stephen (the founder) over a scrumptious plate of Market Fresh Frittata.

Just catching the coffee bean roaster in action is enough to boost the WOW factor of Anchor Café!

Single Origin Coffee – Toraja, Sulawesi

Brightly lit and busy with merriment, it’s hard not to fall in love with this café when there’s always happiness in the roast and hearty conversations in the brew.

Coffee: Single origin brew made from beans harvested from Sumatra, Sulawesi and West Java are available. We love how the coffee beans were roasted right in the store!

Bonus: Anchor Café is an active member of the Indonesian community. Apart from providing cross-training to its employees, 10% of its profits goes back to local farmers who provide the roastery with coffee beans.

Kopi Raya has a heart for premium Indonesian coffee, everyday conversations and not-so-everyday cuisines. With live music transforming the space from Friday to Sunday, this modern café appeals to coffee addicts and crab lovers who would like to try new (and photogenic) things.

Famous for pioneering the serving of chilli crab as on-the-table café food in Batam, Kopi Raya keeps Batam’s “garang” café crowd contented with frequent menu updates and novel dessert items such as nitrogen ice cream and this rather sweet and convincing Sunny Setup.

It’s not an egg.

Paket Combo: Bumbu Bali

As the saying goes, when it comes to “seafood”, the respectable thing to do is to “see food and eat it”. Game for a table full of piping hot and piquant crab? The adorable “Eat the Crab” apron thoughtfully prepared for consumers who are too busy feasting to mind their clothes!

Coffee: Start your day right with brews from Bali, Medan, Aceh, Flores and Sulawesi.

Bonus: As we are speaking, we are counting on Kopi Raya to plan their next big thing to wow the café scene.
